Eric Clapton Biography Finished 328-328
Coming to the final pages of the Clapton biography, A lot can be said about the events that happened in his life, as well as the life choices that he made and how they impacted him and his career. Throughout Clapton's life, many different traumatic and life changing events happened. Starting at a young age, Clapton found out that who he thought to be his mother was actually his grand mother. Later on, Clapton joined the Yardbirds, Blind Faith, John C and the Bluesbreakers as well as recorded songs like "Layla" with Duane Allman. These two moments in Clapton's life were career changing as they are still largely significant in music today! Clapton explained at the end of his book about what it was like leaving each of those extremely successful bands. While he could have stayed in any of those bands and managed to be extremely successful, Clapton decided to leave each band in order to move on to bigger things. He explained the feeling as though he could be free and spread his wings and explore new possibilities, which he did, explaining why today, Clapton is a world renowned musician. This was incredible as he also faced many different roadblocks throughout his life. Clapton faced stalkers, drug and alcohol addiction, unhealthy relationships, divorce, the death of his son Connor, legal issues and more. The list was endless. What appeared to save him every time he neared shutting down was his career.
Clapton managed to be saved by his career each and every time he reached a dark time in his life. One large way that his career saved him was his recovery from the death of his four year old son Connor. Clapton wrote the songs Circus and Tears In Heaven shortly after his passing. This helped Clapton as it provided him a way of expressing his emotions on how he felt about losing his son. When analyzing the situation around Connor, it is amazing to see what Clapton accomplished. This really relates to the essential question, "How can one large event in ones life effect other aspects of their life?" This can be answered by looking back, before Clapton's son was born. Clapton was an alcoholic who was frequently on the road, quickly ruining his health. At the birth of his son, Clapton decided to sober up because he saw the importance of being a good father. He talked a lot about how the song Circus was written due to having taken Connor to the circus in New York the night before he died. This idea of a large event effecting ones life can be even furthered as later on in Clapton's career, he decided to open a rehabilitation center named "Crossroads", after taking over a rehab center from a longtime friend.
Looking back at the essential question of how large life experiences can effect different aspects of ones life, the death of Clapton's biological mother is a great example. Following the death of his mother, Clapton was sent spiraling into, as he called it "emotional blackout". It was his career that had saved him. The "Crossroads" rehabilitation program needed funding. Clapton soon devoted every part of himself into ensuring the success of the rehabilitation program, understanding the significant impact that it would have on others life as it did on his. He also sold one hundred of his own favorite guitars at a guitar auction titled Chrisite's guitar auction. The large event of his mother dying pushed Clapton into becoming solely devoted in saving people from alcoholism. This just shows how one event in someones life can effect a different aspect of that persons life.

I had forgotten this story, but his son died from falling off of a balcony, right? That is so awful.
ReplyDeleteI honestly don't know how parents live through the deaths of children, especially young ones. "Tears in Heaven" is one of the saddest songs ever.
Me neither. Especially with Clapton having made the efforts to be a good father to Connor. Tears in heaven is truly a sad song. The first time I really listened to the lyrics, I had to look up the song to find out what it was about. That was when I learned about this tragedy.
